ABOUT
CONVOCATION

Our heartiest congratulations on your successful admission into SMU! Welcome to A Different U.

Convocation marks the start of your meaningful and memorable journey at SMU. Our faculty and student leaders will officially welcome you into the SMU family with pomp and celebration. Sit back and enjoy the dazzling and spectacular performances by SMU's very own performing arts groups. It will be an unforgettable evening for you and your family.

UNIVERSITY MACE

The SMU mace is the official symbol of authority, prestige and power of our university. Featuring a retro-modernist outlook, the mace incorporates the traditional metaphors with modern aesthetics that marks the 21st century beginnings of a university.

The "SINGAPORE 2000" text at the top of the headset represents hierarchy, with the country and state at the very pinnacle. Three sectional banners bear the symbol of the "Tangram Lion" representing SMU, and they serve to encourage us to continue uphold the values of SMU in innovative pedagogy, research and educational excellence. Three jadeite inserts on the sides symbolize the staff and students of SMU, the community at large and Singapore.

Ceremonial &
Official Gowns

At Convocation, the Guest of Honour, SMU Pro-Chancellor, Chairman, President, Provost and faculty will be dressed in the SMU ceremonial and official gowns. These gowns are in royal blue with gold trimmings and SMU crests embroidery. The gown is worn with blue mortarboard with gold tassel.

GONFALONS

The Grand Procession is led by student representatives carrying the University gonfalon and School gonfalons. The University gonfalon is adorned by the SMU crest with the signature Blue and Gold. The School gonfalons represent the six different schools in SMU, each bearing the school's name and their respective school colours.
